About ON THE LINE

ON THE LINE is a sports-themed health education initiative that harnesses the power of sports and celebrities to challenge men to take charge of their health, beginning with prostate cancer awareness. As the primary media entity for the campaign, ESPN will play a key role in delivering ON THE LINE messages. Athletes, commentators, celebrities, and legendary sports coaches participating in ON THE LINE will all encourage dialogue between men and their family, friends, and physicians about the risk factors and range of diagnosis and treatment options related to prostate cancer.

ASCO's role in ON THE LINE

ON THE LINE draws on the expertise of an independent panel of prostate cancer physicians from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the world's leading professional organization representing doctors who care for people with cancer. ASCO’s expert panel provided the core clinical prostate cancer information, which serves as the basis for the campaign content.

With nearly 30,000 members, ASCO is committed to conquering cancer through research, education, prevention, and delivery of high-quality patient care. ASCO's patient information website—Cancer.Net—brings the expertise and resources of ASCO to people living with cancer and their caregivers, family members, and friends.

ON THE LINE Statement Week LogoON THE LINE Salutes Black History Month

African American men are more likely to develop prostate cancer than other ethnic groups and are more likely to die from the disease. One in five African American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. During Black History Month in February, ON THE LINE has teamed up with the Black Coaches & Administrators (BCA), the organization that represents and supports African American collegiate basketball and football coaches, to encourage African American men to not only learn the risk factors of prostate cancer, but also how to communicate with loved ones and physicians about their health.

ON THE LINE and the BCA are proclaiming the week of February 18th – 26th as “Statement Week” to raise awareness and rally men around the country to take charge of their health. Nearly 100 African American NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball coaches will show their support and raise awareness of prostate cancer by wearing blue bowties during their games this week.
