Top news emerging from the 2010 Breast Cancer Symposium includes a treatment for estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer that could help women avoid a mastectomy, information for women with triple-negative breast cancer who also have a mutation (change) in a breast cancer gene (BRCA1 or BRCA2), evidence that receiving a screening mammography may benefit women aged 40 to 49, and data indicating that improved detection and treatment has increased breast cancer survival rates.
