News for Patients: Prostate and Gastrointestinal Cancers Research

Just-released prostate cancer news from this week’s Genitourinary Cancers Symposium explains the benefits of certain types of radiation therapy, comparisons of common treatment types, two new drugs for men with metastatic disease, and the effect of exercise on genes in the prostate. Read summaries of these advances or listen to a podcast with Nicholas Vogelzang, MD.

Additionally, highlighted research from January’s Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium includes a new test that can identify a higher risk for esophageal cancer, a targeted therapy for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer, a blood test to find early-stage pancreatic cancer, and a drug for people with neuroendocrine tumors. Read a summary of these highlighted studies or listen to a podcast with Morton Kahlenberg, MD.

Numerous scientists are making strides in both of these areas; learn more about the recipients of the 2012 Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Merit Awards who presented their research at the Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Symposia.
