Oncologist-approved cancer information from the American Society of Clinical Oncology

News for Patients from ASCO Symposia

This section provides summaries of cancer research on breast, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary cancers presented each year at symposia sponsored or co-sponsored by ASCO.

The symposia editions of the Cancer Advances newsletter feature such studies because they:

  • Are of scientific importance
  • Will likely change the standard of care
  • Have broad relevance to patients
  • Shed light on controversial areas within oncology research
  • Provide proof of principle for novel therapies/new mechanisms

It is important to note that information contained in Cancer Advances is not intended as medical advice or as a substitute for the treating physician's own professional judgment; nor does it imply ASCO endorsement of any product, service, or company. In addition, because most of the treatments discussed in these articles are not yet available for widespread use, individuals should talk with their doctor to find out if a clinical trial for which a therapy is being offered is appropriate for them.
