• Conocer el estadio del cáncer. Saber esto, le ayuda a usted y al médico a elegir las mejores opciones de tratamiento. También ayuda a los médicos a predecir qué tan bien usted se recuperará.

• Encontrar el lugar correcto para una biopsia.

A positron emission tomography scan is known as a PET scan. PET scan is a type of test that may be used in cancer treatment. It can be done along with a CT scan. If so, doctors call it a PET-CT scan. But you might also just hear it called a PET scan.

Doctors use a computed tomography (CT) scan, also called a CAT scan, to find cancer. They may also use it to learn more about the cancer after they find it. The scan lets them:

• Learn the cancer’s stage. Knowing this helps you and your doctor choose the best treatment options. It also helps doctors predict how well you will recover.

• Find the right place for a biopsy.

• Plan radiation therapy for cancer treatment.
