There are common signs and symptoms that show that a person is entering the final weeks and days of life. When you know what to expect, it can help relieve anxiety and uncertainty, as well as help you plan for what your loved one needs during this time.

Hospice Care

Hospice care is a type of care used when a cure is not likely or when people are in the last months of life. It is used by your health care team to provide palliative care, or supportive care, to help prevent or relieve cancer symptoms. It also helps with treatment side effects. You can receive this care any time during cancer treatment. This includes when you are getting treatment for a cure. Hospice care prevents and relieves symptoms and helps you live the rest of your life as well as possible.

Caring for a Terminally Ill Child

Curing childhood cancer is not always possible. Sometimes, treatment cannot make cancer go away completely. But the health care team can still treat a child's cancer and make them comfortable.

Children with advanced cancer sometimes live for many months or even years. They can have treatment to control the cancer and symptoms. This can help them live as well as possible for as long as possible.
