After her 1998 stage III non-small cell lung cancer diagnosis, Debra Violette was disappointed with the lack of information and support she encountered surrounding her disease. So, now a long term cancer survivor, she works tirelessly to raise awareness and support for the cancer community. Debra serves as the Maine State Chair for the Lung Cancer Alliance and has coordinated numerous public forums with Maine politicians, such as Governor John Elias Baldacci, in order to raise awareness.
Despite her efforts in public service Debra makes time for herself and reflects, through a camera lens, on a world without cancer. “Photography helps me relax,” Debra says. “The beauty that is expressed in the work shows me a way beyond lung cancer – a place of hope, a place of beauty.”
