New Orleans native Ann Cobb Beach grew up in the art world, so when she experienced the loss of her husband to prostate cancer, she took to the canvas to express her emotions.

“A year after my husband's death I returned to painting, in the beginning with tears running down my cheeks,” she says. “But my paintings were bright and whimsical, with the intent to strengthen hope.”

After her husband's death, Ann also returned to the West Clinic Cancer Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She has volunteered there since 2000. Ann is now the art director of the clinic, and was chosen as their first Artist of the Year. Her piece, Love Grows, is featured this February in the 2011-2012 Expressions of Hope calendar.
