Suzanne Flavin, Cancer Patient, Ovarian Cancer
Field of Sunshine

Suzanne Flavin was diagnosed with ovarian cancer two years ago, and has since used painting as an important part of her recovery and a way to escape the stress of everyday life.

Her vibrant painting of sunflowers, Field of Sunshine, featured on the July page of the 2011-2012 Expressions of Hope calendar, is an expression of the sunshine and happiness in her life. “I painted this piece during a recent watercolor workshop,” Suzanne says. “When I arrived to class, the center manager came out of her office with a bouquet of sunflowers, so several of us painted our interpretations of the bouquet. To me, this painting expresses the journey of survivorship, which is a hopeful journey made possible by the collaboration of many people.”
