Dr. Katy Tsai is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is a medical oncologist and clinical researcher specializing in the care of advanced melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, including squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and Merkel cell carcinoma.

Dr. Tsai received her medical degree from Brown University and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She thereafter completed her fellowship in medical oncology at UCSF, where she served as chief fellow, before joining UCSF faculty in the Melanoma & Skin Cancer Program. She serves as Site Committee Chair for her program, working closely with her medical oncology, surgical oncology, and dermatology/dermatopathology colleagues to curate the program’s clinical trial portfolio and to develop novel clinical trials. She additionally serves as Ambulatory Medical Director for the Melanoma & Skin Cancer Program, overseeing operations and quality of care. 

Dr. Tsai is an active member of ASCO and SWOG Cancer Research Network. Her academic work is focused on identifying rational treatment options and predictors of response in immunotherapy-resistant melanoma, and in improving survivorship care and best treatment practices for patients with acute and chronic immune-related adverse events (irAEs).
