Over the next several months, Dr. Charles Ryan from the University of California San Francisco and an ASCO Cancer Communications Committee member will be chatting with various cancer experts who specialize in genitourinary (GU) cancers. Expert Conversations is a podcast series featuring in-depth conversations about research, treatment, and other aspects of cancer care that patients need to know for each disease type.

Next up in our Expert Conversations series you’ll hear from Dr. Ryan and Dr. Powles from Barts Cancer Institute in London, England. These experts discuss the different approaches to treating bladder cancer, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, as well as the role of clinical trials. Immunotherapy is a type of treatment that boosts the body’s natural defenses to fight the cancer.

Recently, new immunotherapy approaches have emerged that may be promising for many patients with metastatic or advanced bladder cancer. While immunotherapy has been shown to treat patients with advanced bladder cancer, Dr. Powles points out that, “it’s likely that there is a huge cohort of other patients who are going to benefit as well.” share on twitter
