Dr. Fay J. Hlubocky is a licensed clinical health psychologist with an expertise in psychosocial oncology and a healthcare ethicist at the University of Chicago Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Section of Hematology/Oncology, the Supportive Oncology Program, and the Maclean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics.

Dr. Hlubocky received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago and Masters of Arts in Healthcare Ethics from Rush University. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology and her clinical fellowship in psychosocial oncology at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. Dr. Hlubocky’s clinical research and educational efforts center on the impact of the psychosocial aspects in cancer care involving patients, caregivers, and oncologists from time of diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and at the end-of-life. This includes distress screening, patient-reported outcomes, quality of life, cognitive dysfunction, spirituality, palliative care, oncology clinician well-being, and oncologist-patient communication. She collaborates on interdisciplinary research, has published multiple scientific, empirical works, book chapters, and has presented at numerous national and international conferences to promote the significance of addressing patient, caregiver, and oncologist psychosocial needs across the cancer trajectory. Dr. Hlubocky also conducts staff and patient education for the University of Chicago Comprehensive Center’s Office of Community Engagement and Cancer Health Equity, cancer community support partners, and several cancer advocacy groups and coalitions.

She is honored to serve as a member and advocate of ASCO, the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, and the International Psycho-Oncology Society. Dr. Hlubocky was the recent Past Chair of the ASCO Ethics Committee (2017-2021) and also has served on ASCO’s Disparities (Equity) committee from 2013-2016. She was recently named as the Co-Chair of ASCO’s Clinician Well-Being Task Force in 2020.
