Dr. Ryan Gentzler is a thoracic medical oncologist and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Virginia (UVA) Comprehensive Cancer Center in Charlottesville, VA. He is the Director of Thoracic Medical Oncology Clinical Research, chair of the Cancer Center Lung Cancer Translational Research Team, and chair of the UVA Cancer Center Protocol Review Committee.

Dr. Gentzler graduated from the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine, completed internal medicine internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and completed his hematology/oncology fellowship at Northwestern University. He also earned a MS in Pharmacology in the National Institutes of Health K30 training program in human investigation at Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Gentzler specializes in the treatment of people with lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies and is a clinical investigator with interests in novel drug development for patients with lung cancer. He has been a co-Principal Investigator on the National Cancer Institute (NCI) UM1 grant that funds the Johns Hopkins University LAO phase I/II consortium for the NCI Experimental Therapeutic Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN), co-chair of the Thoracic Clinical Trial Working Group for the Hoosier Cancer Research Network (HCRN), and an active member of the ECOG-ACRIN (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and the American College of Radiology Imaging Network ) cooperative group.
