About the cervix

The cervix is the lower, narrow part of the uterus in the female reproductive system. The uterus holds a growing fetus during pregnancy. The cervix connects the lower part of the uterus to the vagina and, with the vagina, forms the birth canal.

Cancer is uncommon in children. Most cancers (99%) develop in adults, and it is most common in older adults. About 1 out of every 3 adults will develop cancer during their lifetime, while about 1 in 285 children will develop cancer before the age of 20.
