For Patient Advocates

An advocate is someone who supports or defends a cause. In the cancer community, an advocate supports a cause or policy regarding cancer. Cancer advocates can work on a local or national level, providing support to those living with cancer, raising public awareness of the disease, advancing cancer research, improving the quality of cancer care, or addressing legislative and regulatory issues that affect cancer care and research.

Public Policy Advocacy

In this section, you will find information and resources about major policy issues that affect people with cancer. Every day, local and national policymakers make decisions that directly influence the care of patients. The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the nation’s leading professional organization representing oncologists and other cancer care providers, advocates on a wide range of policy-related issues to ensure that all patients with cancer have access to high-quality, high-value cancer care.

Hiring Home Care Services

"Home care" is health care and supportive services given by a trained professional at a patient's home. A person may need home care to recover from surgery or a long hospital stay. Other people need more long-term home care during and after cancer treatment.

There are many reasons to consider bringing a professional caregiver into your home. For example, home care can help you or your loved one spend less time in the hospital. This includes people with advanced cancer, who can receive hospice care in the home.
