Karen Bennett's artwork, Rays of Hope, is a tribute to her aunt Ruth, who kept hope alive while watching, caring for, and losing her husband and only child to cancer. “Also, in my own life, going through two different scares of a possible diagnosis of cancer - lung and then lymphoma - had I not had hope, I couldn't have made it,” says Karen.

Of her painting, featured on the March page of the 2011-2012 Expressions of Hopecalendar, Karen says that it “represents the spring to come after we have weathered the winter storm in our life. Our hope is also contagious to others who may be quietly suffering and may need some inspiration. The words in this artwork were a few of the encouraging words and phrases that have helped me hold on to hope by reminding me ‘this too shall pass' and ‘a new day' is coming.”
