My Peaceable Kingdom

Annie T. Ham is eight years old and is in the third grade. In February 2010, Annie's mom died after a short fight with colon cancer. It's been a tough year for their family, but when Annie draws, she is happy.

This painting was an assignment from Annie's art teacher to create a kingdom where all people and animals would get along. In Annie's Peaceable Kingdom, she and her friends float down a calm river on a sail boat. Their smiles are big because in this kingdom, there is no sadness. In this kingdom, everyone gets along - the tigers and the lamb, the monkeys and the snakes. This is a happy place, a peaceful escape.
